We write today as American Jews who care profoundly about the safety, security, and future of Israel. We also care deeply about the Palestinian people, their lives and their right to national self determination and sovereignty.
Our hearts remain shattered by the unspeakable horrors of October 7—a day that left over 1,200 Israelis brutally murdered and over 200 kidnapped into Gaza with many still enduring unimaginable conditions in captivity today.
At the same time, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has descended into unfathomable tragedy. Over 40,000 people have lost their lives. Famine and deprivation now grip the majority of the population, leaving millions, including children, on the brink of starvation. This is a crisis of human suffering that demands urgent action.
While the war persists, senior ministers in the Netanyahu government are openly pushing for the resettlement of Gaza—an initiative driven by a fanatical, messianic minority that betrays the values of justice and peace central to our Jewish heritage. This dangerous agenda prioritizes ideological expansion over human lives: over the lives of the hostages, over the lives of soldiers, over the lives of Palestinian civilians, and at the cost of Israel’s future security.
By prioritizing the expansion of settlements in Gaza they are placing the state on a perilous path, moving further from the prospects of peace and threatening its long-term security.
This is a pivotal moment. We cannot allow the narrow, destructive vision of a corrupt government to dictate the future of the state of Israel. We say loudly and clearly, we oppose the establishment of Israeli settlements in Gaza.
In solidarity,
